Dil Chahta Hai: An Oscar for Lagaan

Sealed envelope holds the answer. But for a billion of its well-wishers, the Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category should only go to the one movie the entire nation is cheering for. Delhi Times catches the pitch of the celeb pulse to find prominent personalities rooting for Lagaan

Amitabh Bachchan:
Having lent my voice to Lagaan, I have a personal attachment with the movie. Also, Aamir is a dear friend. He should win the Academy Award. Being one of the first Indians to have reached where he has, in my mind, he has already won an Oscar.

Shah Rukh Khan:
All my best wishes are with Aamir and the Lagaan team. Most of all for Ashutosh, who is a special friend. I have a special message for him which he will understand - Ashutosh, I will be there personally to receive you at the airport and please let me touch the Oscar if you win it.

Shahab Durazi:
It's been more than a decade-long friendship that I have shared with Aamir. With Lagaan going to the Oscars, I am proud of my friend. When I spoke to him last week, he told me that the buzz was good and I replied saying I was very confident about the film's chances at the awards. Lagaan has brought a completely new style to Indian cinema, it's so special.

Simi Garewal:
I met Aamir and Reena when they were in town for Nasirsaab's funeral. Both of them were very positive about the film and Aamir said that the film has been watched by all members of the Academy. On my end, I've kept mannats and pray that they come back with the Oscar.

Amar Singh:
Lagaan has been a special film for me. I saw the film with Amitji at Anil Ambani's house. At the end of it, all of us were discussing how brilliantly the message of unity was conveyed in the film. The melodies were haunting and the presentation lovely.

Subhash Ghai:
The day I first saw the trial of Lagaan, I sent a congratulatory SMS to Aamir for making such a perfect and complete film. Lagaan is undoubtedly a film that deserves victory on the Oscar stage.

Saif Ali Khan:
The moment I finished watching Lagaan, I knew one thing for sure - the film would make us proud. All of us friends in the industry are waiting with baited breath for the results. If it's a proud moment for Aamir, it is so for all of us back here. I plan to call him just before the moment of reckoning.

Nikhil Nanda:
When I saw Lagaan, I was struck by it's sheer simplicity and I think that is what makes it so special. The movie scores with it's portrayal of the winning spirit that is part of every Indian. It's been long due that Indian cinema got the recognition it deserves. I wish the Lagaan team good luck.
