Lagaan captain puts up a brave face

LOS ANGELES: In true "sportsman spirit", Aamir Khan, the captain of 'Lagaan XI' on Monday said his much hyped film lost out in the foreign category at Oscars "probably due to the topicality of the winner-Bosnia's No Man's Land-" which speaks of futility of war.

"No Man's Land is based on such a topic which is very sensitive in the present context. It's about war between two communities and two countries. This factor may have weighed on the minds of the judges which also should be taken into account," he told the private news channel.

"All the five films which reached the top were equally good and No man's land is an excellent movie. We should applaud it," said the actor-producer of Lagaan.

Asked if the song-and-dance sequences were a drawback for the film, Aamir said he didn't think so. "Many members told us after the awards ceremony that Lagaan was the best film for them and they liked the songs," he said.
