Aamir Khan puts up a brave face

In true "sportsman spirit", Aamir Khan, the captain of 'Lagaan XI' today said his much hyped film lost out in the foreign category at Oscars "probably due to the topicality of the winner-Bosnia's 'No Man's Land'-" which speaks of futility of war.

"No Man's Land is based on such a topic which is very sensitive in the present context. It's about war between two communities and two countries. This factor may have weighed on the minds of the judges which also should be taken into account," he told the private news channel Aaj Tak. All the five films which reached the top were equally good and No man's land is an excellent movie. We should applaud it, said the actor-producer of Lagaan.

Asked if the song-and-dance sequences were a drawback for the film, Aamir said he didn't think so. "Many members told us after the awards ceremony that Lagaan was the best film for them and they liked the songs," he said.
"I don't think there was any shortcoming in the film and we didn't leave any stone unturned," he said adding that he doesn't know how close the competition was. "We had with us the love and support of not only the people of India but also of those in the neighbouring countries....according to me, it is a big victory for us in a way that the whole country got together for such a happy occasion and for this I am grateful to all," he said.
Asked about his plans after the Oscars Aamir said he would return to India and start working on the story of his next film. He also said that Lagaan will be released on May 11th in Europe and America and they are making endevours to screen the film across the world. Aamir said there are many talented filmmakers in India and "we should keep on with our efforts. I hope and pray that one day we will certainly win the award and do our country proud."
